The SEZ says thank you

The Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ) says thank you for 17.220 euros in donations.

We made the donations on the occasion of the Christmas campaigns CDU state parliamentary group, State parliamentary group Alliance 90/The GREENS as the Printing company Maier GmbH in Rottenburg and the Maier family, also Rottenburg, preserved.

The donations will benefit two projects in the Baden-Württemberg partner country Burundi and one project in South Sudan. Support for victims of sexual and sexualized violence is supported in Burundi. The RBP+ association has set up a care center in the Bubanza municipality north of Bujumbura.

The second Burundi project that can be supported with the donations is the hospital in Rumonge in the south of Burundi. It serves around 30.000 people and urgently needs better basic equipment and medical equipment.

In South Sudan, the donations will be used to expand the primary school in Raja in the state of Lol. Here, 250 children are taught in makeshift huts. They should receive classrooms with rainproof roofs and a foundation.

Father Benno Baumeister retired

Father Benno Baumeister, a long-time partner of the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ), has withdrawn from active project work in Burundi.

Baumeister, one of the SEZ partners from the very beginning, lived in Africa for over 50 years, mainly in the Republic of Congo and in the Baden-Württemberg partner country Burundi. He set up the Center Nouvelle Espérance in the Burundian capital Bujumbura, an institution for the predominantly needy population in the Buyenzi district. Originally a meeting place for people suffering from HIV/AIDS, the Center Nouvelle Espérance has now grown into a social and educational center. Here, the sick learn to take their lives into their own hands despite the infection and to support themselves through preventative health measures and activities as well as through vocational training.

Philipp Keil, Managing Director of the SEZ, and his deputy Klaus Weingärtner spoke to Benno Baumeister about handing over the projects to his successor Volker Schwill. The conversation took place in the Marienheim in Hechingen, the retirement home for retired African missionaries of the White Fathers.

Father Benno Baumeister received the One World Prize from the SEZ in 2013 for his life's work. In doing so, the SEZ honored his outstanding and exemplary commitment to peace, reconciliation, justice and the fight against poverty in Burundi.

Students from all schools in Baden-Württemberg that were designated as a Fairtrade School before April 15, 2019 can take part.

The application deadline is April 15, 2019.

On the death of Dr. Bernhard Lasotta

"The death of Dr. Bernhard Lasotta shocked us deeply. With him we are losing a long-standing supporter of our foundation and our work," said Philipp Keil, Managing Director of the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ).

“As a long-standing member of the SEZ Board of Trustees and as development policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, Dr. Lasotta always worked for the interests of the foundation and the partnership-based cooperation between the people in Baden-Württemberg and countries in the global south. He will be missed by all of us.”

The CDU MP Dr. Berhard Lasotta has been a member of the SEZ Board of Trustees since 2001, including two years as a deputy member. From 2008 to 2016, Lasotta was deputy chairman of the board of trustees.

Bernhard Lasotta has been a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament since 2001. There he represented the Neckarsulm constituency.
