OPEN LETTER ON POLICE OPERATION IN MANNHEIM

Together with the umbrella organization for development policy Baden-Württemberg e.V., we, the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation, take a position in an open letter to Interior Minister Strobl on a violent police operation that took place in Mannheim at the end of April and climate activists affected West Africa. We are shocked by the events and express our full solidarity with the young adults and the Black Academy. From our many years of work, we know that such events are unfortunately not isolated cases and that racism must always be viewed in a context of society as a whole. The current case highlights structural problems that can only be addressed through decisive political action. That is why we are making concrete demands to politicians in our open letter.

The open letter is available for download here:

Would you like to stand with us behind the demands and show your support? If you would like to support the demands of the letter, please send a short email by June 16, 2023 info@deab.de. The entire list of supporting organizations will then appear here: https://www.deab.de/aktuell/de…

PROF. DR. ARAM ZIAI ON COLONIAL PATTERNS

WHAT COLONIAL PATTERNS EXIST IN DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION AND HOW CAN THESE BE DECOLONIZED?

brought answers to these highly topical questions Prof. Dr. Aram Ziai on September 23, 2022 in his presentation at the digital nationwide networking meeting of the partnership groups. He gave suggestions and impulses on how decolonization processes can be approached and advanced in partnership work.

Around 50 interested people listened to Ziai's remarks on historical power inequalities that continue to this day. Ziai traced how the problematic and normatively charged term “development” emerged from the context of colonialism and which power asymmetries persist in development policy contexts to this day. After the input, a lively discussion developed about how theory and practice can come together here and how important the critical perspective on one's own structures should also be for the development cooperation sector. The lecture contained many valuable impulses for the partnership groups to reflect on their own partnership work.

You can find the video on our Youtube channel. Prof. Dr. Aram Ziai is head of the Department of Development Policy and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Kassel, where he teaches and researches.

Am Saturday June 17, 2023 the next one finds technical input on international partnership work takes place. In an online workshop with Mariette Nicole Afi Amoussou Let's get closer to the topic that is currently being discussed a lot “German colonial history and colonial traces” and offer space for personal reflection and the expansion of knowledge and scope for action. It will take place from 09:30 a.m. to 16:30 p.m. via Zoom. You can join here Registration deadline is June 13th Sign in: https://eveeno.com/349406533
