AFRICA WEEK 2024 – Africa and Climate Change The Impacts and Actions

Freiburg im Breisgau – The “Africa Week 2024” opens its doors on September 13th and 14th in the Zähringen Community Center and invites you to an intensive cultural and scientific exchange. Under the theme “Africa and Climate Change – Impacts and Measures”, this annual event brings together prominent experts, committed activists and interested citizens to spend a weekend delving deep into the pressing environmental issues facing our planet.

Top-class speakers and lively discussions

The program promises exciting insights, including from human rights lawyer Dr. Onyemaechi Franklyne Ogbunwezeh from Frankfurt, who will speak on the topic "Where does Africa stand in the discourse on climate change and climate justice?" Prof. Dr. Nelson Ong'Ondo Gekara from the University of Freiburg will examine the role of infectious diseases in the context of climate change in Africa. Prof. Dr. Brando Okolo from the Steinbeis Institute in Karlsruhe will speak about the visible signs of climate change on the African continent and point out possible solutions. In addition to these high-profile lectures, visitors can expect a panel discussion with civil society actors and experts, including Dr. David Tchakoura, Dr. Rachid L'Aoufir, Chairman of the Board of the African-German Working Group (ADAGE) Berlin and Phillip Keil, Chairman of the Board of the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation.

Workshops, music and culinary delights

But there are more than just lectures on the program. Interactive workshops, an impressive photo exhibition on environmental pollution in Lagos by Gabriel Goller and the documentary film "Akwanteng - A Ghanaian village is dying of cocoa" offer further opportunities to deal intensively with the topics. African street and finger foods will provide culinary highlights, and DJ Tony Kfellows will set the mood with current Afrobeats, supported by the Afrodance Group Freiburg and the Asambeni Dance Group.

A weekend for all the senses

Africa Week 2024 is more than just an event - it is a platform for education, exchange and cultural interaction. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about the challenges of climate change in Africa and also experience the rich culture of this diverse continent. Admission is free and the doors are open to anyone interested in global environmental issues and African culture.

Don't miss this inspiring weekend! Come along and be part of an unforgettable event that combines education, culture and enjoyment in an impressive way.
