EXPERIENCE TOUR NECKAR-ODENWALD CIRCLE: ESCAPE, FOOD, CLIMATE CHANGE – LEARNING FROM HISTORY FOR THE FUTURE

How are flight, nutrition and climate change related? On a bike tour we discover global connections and derive solutions for the future from the past. We start together at the train station in Buchen. The Eiermann-Magnani House in Hettingen, a post-war cooperative settlement, shows how refugees once took their lives into their own hands. This leads us to look at current causes of flight worldwide. Then we go to the green kernel kiln in Buchen-Rinschheim. Grünkern was invented in the Odenwald during the famine years in the 19th century, and today it is an example of innovative food production to alleviate hunger in the world. And at the Eberstadt stalactite cave we learn something about the effects of climate change on countries in the Global South.

The tour is aimed at adults and children aged 12 and over (only when accompanied by an adult).
Please bring your own safe bikes and helmets. There is no rental option. The route is suitable for conventional or e-bikes. (20 km cycle path, 230 meters altitude)
Cost: 2,50 euros entry to Eiermann-Magnani House per person. Please bring the appropriate amount with you. Children and students are free.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring food if necessary.
Notes: Participation in the tour is at your own risk. Subject to change.

Background: in order to make the 17 goals for sustainable development set by the global community for all countries better known, Engagement Global and the Rhine-Neckar Region Association (VRRN) have developed seven adventure tours. These are a new development policy educational offering in the rural regions of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
The tours are guided and, with their individual learning stations, provide an insight into regional peculiarities of the landscape. They combine exercise and fun with education and are aimed at the general public. The tours encourage everyone to work towards implementing the 17 sustainability goals. Trained tour guides know the region and make current references to the model of global sustainable development and individual sustainability goals. Under the motto “global.local.experience”, global challenges can be experienced in regional areas.
