To what extent does marine protection begin in local rivers? What special challenges does the biodiversity of river landscapes face? And what does our behavior have to do with it?
As part of a kayak tour on the Elsenz, the major challenges of the global sustainability goals become clear on the small river: water pollution, loss of biodiversity and the effect of climate change on the world's oceans. We also learn more about why the sea is a source of life and where this basis of life is threatened by overfishing. During the sporty tour there will also be a guided voluntary “clean-up” of the river bank, during which rubbish from nature is collected.
The following sustainability goal will be examined in more detail during this tour: SDG 14 – Life Below Water

Background: 17 destination tours for sustainability – global.local.experience
The United Nations' Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) forms the framework for the global realization of a future-proof and sustainable society. In the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, seven adventure tours are offered on foot, by bike or on the water. Specially trained tour guides show the global connections on site and give suggestions on how the 17 goals can be achieved.
The “global.local.experience” tours are an offer from the Development-Related Education in Germany (EBD) program run by Engagement Global in cooperation with the Rhine-Neckar Region Association.
