Glaciers are melting – and not only in the Alps. In the Peruvian Andes, over 50 percent of the glacier area has already disappeared, with catastrophic consequences for people and nature.
For the International Year of Glaciers, the DAV, in cooperation with the Peru Information Center, is looking beyond the Alps to the consequences of climate change in Peru.
Paola Moschella Miloslavich of the Peruvian Glacier Institute will discuss glaciers and mountain ecosystems in Peru and the consequences of glacial melt. Peruvian photographer Angela Ponce will share striking images and describe how glacial melt is changing the lives of an affected indigenous community.
Both speakers will be connected online, with translation into German available.
