Peru is actually able to produce the quantity and quality of food to feed its population. However, the unequal distribution of resources and opportunities on the food market means that more than half of the population does not have regular access to sufficient food. Women are particularly affected, both as consumers and as producers.
We present two women's initiatives that are committed to food sovereignty: Canasta Solidaria Mihuna kachun strengthens traditional indigenous knowledge and sustainable farming methods in the Andean highlands of Cusco. The community kitchens in the outskirts of Lima ensure that families get a warm meal every day. As different as the living situations in Lima and in the highlands are, they are united by the fight for the right to food.
