FIGHTING POVERTY THROUGH COLLABORATIVE LEARNING IN INTEGRATED PIG HARMING

In order to overcome poverty (SDG1), vine farming is seen as a promising way in Uganda. The local project partner, an association of Ugandan social entrepreneurs, has therefore selected this as the first cross-association income program specifically for poor, rural beneficiaries and developed the present pilot project with the participation of the target group. Through training, networking and individual support, 48 start-ups in four regions of Uganda are given the opportunity to set up a pig farm based on the principles of organic farming. This turns them from self-sufficient farmers into small farmers and allows them to escape poverty in the long term. The project has a pilot character and serves as a test for scaling, which should then free significantly more people from poverty in the following years.
