In Mali, the topic of sexuality is still taboo. Boys and girls receive no information whatsoever, neither from their parents nor at school. They don't know how and why their bodies change during puberty. The result: unwanted pregnancies, traumatizing experiences due to child abuse, lack of family planning, high maternal and child mortality. Our project reaches 10% of the age group in 10.000 villages in the region mentioned (approx. 60 people). In particular, local authorities, religious leaders and healthcare workers are also included. The lessons are given by employees who have been specially trained by our partner NGO AMDD. They provide information about the biology of the body, puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, contraception and family planning. To impart knowledge, they use the Reflect teaching method, which has been successfully tested in Africa and by AMDD. All young people who take part in the project become multipliers in their social environment in the long term when it comes to imparting this knowledge. Objective: teenagers and young adults get to know their body and its functions, unwanted pregnancies and child marriages decrease by 30%, family planning is socially recognized and practiced by 30% more people.
