Due to persistent insecurity and attacks on villages and civilians by violent non-state groups such as Boko Haram, women and girls in northern and northeastern Nigeria are structurally disadvantaged. They are also at risk of becoming victims of kidnapping, forced marriage and sexual violence. For these reasons, BMDZ/Mission 21 works with local partners to strengthen women, especially widows, young women and vulnerable young people from conflict areas. Vocational training and further education promote their skills and offer life prospects. The beneficiaries belong to different religious communities and ethnic groups, so the project makes a significant contribution to promoting interreligious peace and understanding.
