With our local project partner Palai we want to build a multi-purpose room for children and young people. The multi-purpose room will function as a kind of center. Palai is located in a former combat zone and has no infrastructure that offers young people a future. In 2009, the civil war in Sri Lanka came to an end after 25 years. After the war, several war-affected families were resettled - including around 75 families from the village of Palai in Kilinochchi district. There is no permanent work here. Many earn their living as day laborers or through illegal distilling. Young people in particular are unemployed and have no prospects. This drives them to abuse alcohol. With our project we want to create meeting spaces and exercise spaces in which we work on the future, for example through homework support for children and young people, further training for adults, and meeting space for everyone. The project is designed to be participatory right from the start - from creation to establishment. With the project we want to contribute to the following SDGs: 1. End poverty by creating a place where young people and adults can continue their education in order to earn their own living, 4. Education for all, in which we give children and young people the opportunities to prepare for school in a multi-purpose room. The room will also be used as a school after-school care center. 5. Gender equality, which also specifically promotes the promotion of women and girls.
