Parents, who often live on the poverty line, hand their children over to workshop managers under false promises that their children will be looked after, receive training and then be able to help their families financially. In reality, however, the minors often find themselves in a situation of economic exploitation and have to work for their trainers for years, sometimes without pay, before they are allowed to take their journeyman's exam and become self-employed. National laws on occupational safety are not applied, nor are children's basic rights implemented.
The project aims to create a better environment for apprentices to complete their training and to encourage a change in the mindset of the population.
