The indigenous peoples and small farming families in the northeastern Amazon region of Ecuador live on the front line between rainforest protection, the climate crisis and industrial agriculture, oil and timber industries. By strengthening ecological forest management, permaculture and environmental education, local food sovereignty can be secured and new income and development opportunities can be created that are in line with the protection of the rainforest, the global climate and their culture. Project measures include building capacities to conserve, use and regenerate biodiversity, as well as to process and market native plants and organic products that represent a sustainable alternative to deforestation and palm oil monocultures.
