IMPROVED SCHOOL EDUCATION THROUGH FOOD SECURITY FOR 155 YOUTH FROM RUMONGE

In general, the Rumonge area and especially in the Gatete zone is very poor and the population lives from agriculture and fishing. Many people are currently returning to the area who fled after the crises of 1972 and 1993 - mainly to Tanzania. Unfortunately, this much desired return has consequences for peace between the returnees and residents. For those who return no longer find the land they owned before they fled, now inhabited by those who remained behind. Young people raised in Tanzania have difficulty learning French and Kirundi languages; accordingly, they have great difficulty adapting to the Burundian school system.
The peculiarity of this project is that in addition to offering at least one school lunch to the at-risk youth of Gatete to avoid dropping out of school, it is also inclusive. The project brings together young returnees and those remaining or residents. The implementation of this project will also promote and strengthen peace in this area.
