After the Lunzu River overflowed its banks in February 2023 and robbed them of all their belongings, the residents of the communities have set priorities for regaining a normal life in a participatory process: The goal of climate-resilient and climate-friendly reconstruction at the village level is to restore local infrastructure, access to health care, provide psychosocial support and reduce infection risks such as cholera and malaria through improved sanitation and hygiene conditions (e.g. paved toilets, fresh water wells). In addition, livelihood security measures are being implemented to ensure the long-term economic recovery of the community.
