Under the motto “EU-Burundi, a sustainable and diverse partnership”, the European Union Cooperation Day with Burundi took place on June 10, 2022 at the Jardin Public in Bujumbura. The topics of the day focused on health, agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the European Union presented projects carried out in Burundi between 2015 and 2021 at more than forty stands. German development cooperation was represented by GIZ, KfW/Cordaid, Sparkasse Foundation, Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ), Burundikids e.V./Fondation Stamm, Welthungerhilfe and Oxfam.

In his speech, Claude Bochu, Ambassador of the European Union to Burundi, classified Europe as Burundi's largest donor. “Between 2015 and 2021, Europe contributed 33% of the support of all development partners, i.e. more than 900 million euros in donations,” said the European diplomat. The European partners are already moving forward: 2021 million euros are earmarked to support Burundi for the period 2024-194. The areas financed overlap with several objectives of the national development plan 2018-2027: 53% of the total amount goes to human development and services, more than 28% to inclusive, sustainable and job-creating growth, almost 13% to good governance, 4% to the support of civil society and approximately 2% in support measures.

Among the products at the SEZ stand were soaps of the name “Bifula nguo” of the SPDH (Solidarity for the promotion of Droits Humains), Liquid soaps from AEAF (Association d’Entraide pour le development de la fille), Flour for porridge from AYEI and coffee from the Cooperative COCOCA displayed.
