Celebrate the start of the "Académie de l´Amitié - Tandem project between Burundi and Baden-Württemberg". It will be an exciting evening with music, games, culinary highlights and inspiring encounters. The tandem project is carried out by the Academy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart in cooperation with the Protestant Academy of Bad-Boll. It brings people and organizations from both countries together. In tandems, ideas and projects are created that are developed and implemented jointly. This deepens the friendship between the two regions.

From the first day of school to the graduation ball: school was full of ups and downs. What memories come to mind from your school days? With four Burundian German teachers taking part, we will be exchanging experiences and anecdotes from school at the cabaret.
As part of the Goethe Institute's training program, which has been sponsored by the Ministry of Culture for many years, German teachers from Burundi have the opportunity to complete further training in Freiburg. There are currently four teachers in Freiburg. After completing the training, they will come to Stuttgart from November 26.11.2024th, 30.11.2024 to November XNUMXth, XNUMX. During their stay, there are numerous opportunities to network with the teachers. In addition to the cabaret, the EPIZ Reutlingen workshop on the topic “AMAHORO! Making the Baden-Württemberg/Burundi partnership and global learning in schools tangible!” on November 29, 2024 at the Linden Museum, Stuttgart, is a good opportunity to exchange ideas with the teachers. Further information can be found in the appendix.
We look forward to receiving your registration for the cabaret at bw-burundi@sez.de (for better planning) or your spontaneous visit.

The University Network for Global Partnerships Baden-Württemberg (GloPart), the Africa Centre for Transregional Research and the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute, in support of the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ), cordially invite you to the scientific symposium “Burundi in East Africa: Opportunities and challenges”.
The 40-year partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi is situated in specific temporal and spatial contexts that have a formative effect:
1. Burundi was a (marginal) part of the German colony of German East Africa. The relations between Germany and Burundi's neighbouring country, Tanzania, are still relevant today and, not least, instructive about the bilateral culture of remembrance.
2. Burundi's violent conflicts in the recent past have had cross-border consequences: both the escalation patterns and conflict consequences, such as the displacement of people, as well as the political "engineering" through copying or differentiation from other models illustrate the importance of regional embedding.
3. As a landlocked country, Burundi is particularly dependent on its East African neighbours, through which almost all imports and exports pass. Regional integration within the East African Community, which is currently being reorganised and could potentially focus even more on the Indian Ocean as a trading area, therefore has a direct impact on the country.
The conference aims to help to better classify Burundi and its partnership with Baden-Württemberg both geographically and temporally in order to develop realistic, pragmatically sensible perspectives for cooperation.
The event will be held in English and French without translation.
The event, organized by the GloPart network, ACT and ABI, addresses the opportunities and challenges of global partnerships in the field of higher education and civil society. The occasion is the 40th anniversary of the partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi. In addition to keynote speeches by Her Excellency the Ambassador of Burundi and Rudi Hoogvliet, State Secretary for Media Policy and Representative of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the Federal Government, a panel will discuss these questions.
The event is public and hybrid. German-French interpretation will be available. Registration is requested for both online and in-person participation.
The event takes place with the support of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg (MWK).
