“Partnership must not be a one-way street” – under this motto, numerous activities have developed in the years since the Ulm-Jinotega Cities Partnership was founded in 1986, which were supported and carried out by Ulm citizens from a wide variety of groups: from the Ulm World Shop to to the district student council, from the Ulm City Youth Association to the Gustav Werner School for mentally handicapped people.o Partnership between Ulm and Jinotega: Right from the start, that meant more than collecting money to carry out individual projects.o Partnership between Ulm and Jinotega: That always meant more than working with a single partner.o Partnership between Ulm and Jinotega: To this day, that means enabling encounters, exchanges, getting to know each other and working together on as many levels as possible. This means exchanging ideas and building personal relationships. In order to meet this requirement, attempts have been made in recent years to promote direct collaboration between initiatives, groups or organizations in Ulm and Jinotega. There are a few concrete projects - in addition to the first project, the construction of a housing estate for worker and refugee families, and the association's current main project, namely supporting the educational work of the Nicaraguan association "La Cuculmeca" and setting up an education center for the city and the Jinotega region – created:o Support in setting up a youth and cultural center.o Support for the local station “Radio Estereo libre” to maintain and further develop its broadcasting operations as a citizen radio.o The development of relationships between students in Ulm and Jinotega.o The support of the Max Senquí special school in its work with severely disabled small children, mildly mentally handicapped children and children with learning disabilities through the support group of the Ulm Gustav Werner School and the ÖTV operating group in the Tannenhof home for the disabled.
