The IGER = Instituto Guatemalan de Educación Radiofónica is comparable to a distance learning course. Here people (approx. 42.000) can obtain a state-recognized school leaving certificate (6th or 9th school year), i.e. normal school leaving certificate or intermediate school leaving certificate. The material is developed at the IGER headquarters. At the same time, regional stations broadcast the relevant program. Regional student groups meet at the weekend to deepen what they have learned. The students pay about a third of the school fees
