The ifa promotes international understanding through international cooperation in all areas of culture and peacebuilding. It acts as an intermediary organization for German foreign policy on behalf of the Foreign Office.
The main activities of the ifa are global exhibition tours of German art, exhibitions by artists from transition and developing countries in the ifa galleries in Stuttgart, Berlin and Bonn, international symposiums on the European-Islamic cultural dialogue, the magazine for cultural exchange, and the specialist library on foreign cultural policy , courses in German as a foreign language in Stuttgart, programs in the area of integration and media to strengthen civil society development in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and projects to promote intercultural competence in companies and among young people.
