Stuttgart, May 10, 2021. “The coalition agreement raises high expectations. However, we are very concerned because the promises contained therein are subject to budgetary reservations,” said Claudia Duppel, Managing Director of the Baden-Württemberg Development Policy Association (DEAB). The coalition agreement passed on Saturday at the two party conferences of the CDU and the Greens in Baden-Württemberg is entitled “Now for tomorrow” and contains promises that raise high expectations. “We welcome the fact that development policy is seen as a cross-sectional task and an essential component of a state policy geared towards sustainability and the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Climate protection only works in an international context,” says Philipp Keil, Managing Director of the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ).
We are pleased that the commitment of the numerous civil society initiatives that are committed to greater global responsibility and solidarity will be further promoted. With their educational work and international partnership work, they make an indispensable contribution to global thinking and local action, to promoting civic engagement, and to coping with socio-ecological transformations, here and worldwide. The current pandemic is exacerbating global inequalities and injustices and requires profound changes.
They are the right promises. We need decisive action at all political levels – now for tomorrow! This action must not be subject to budgetary restrictions. It would take revenge and stab in the back those who are active around the world today.
