From Bujumbura to Stuttgart: Partner country Burundi at the Africa Festival Stuttgart

2025 is a special year: The Stuttgart Africa Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary! From July 10 to 13, 2025, Stuttgart's Erwin-Schöttle-Platz will once again become a stage for encounters through music, art, and culinary delights. A special highlight: the diverse insights into Baden-Württemberg's partner country, Burundi.

Since 2003, the free Stuttgart Africa Festival has attracted thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad to Stuttgart-Heslach on the second weekend of July. Over the years, the festival has brought people together and created a space for music, art, and new ideas. This year, a special focus is on Burundi, which has been linked to Baden-Württemberg through the AMAHORO! state partnership for over 2 years.

The kick-off is the Ingoma Drum Group Berlin at the opening of the festival on Friday, July 11. With their powerful sounds, the Drumming Band of Burundi Young and old alike. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. The drummers are accompanied by dancers. The drums and traditional dances are an important part of Burundi's cultural identity – be there and experience them live!

Would you like to learn more about the partner country Burundi and the AMAHORO! country partnership? Exhibition “AMAHORO Burundi – Partner Country Full of Facets” From Friday to Sunday, the Old Fire Station offers impressive insights into Burundi's society, its (colonial) history and the partnership that has linked Burundi and Baden-Württemberg for over 40 years.

On Saturday, July 12, you will gain insights into the impact of climate change in Burundi. documentary “Facing new realties – How climate change is affecting the heart of Africa” impressively illuminates the consequences of climate change in Burundi, possible solutions, and why climate justice is important. Burundi itself does not contribute significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions, but is nevertheless severely affected by their consequences.
Afterwards, Emmanuel Niyoyabikoze, founder of the organization Greening Burundi, a keynote speech on this topic and then invites you to a shared exchange.
