One of Burundi's best-known film directors, Amani Papy, was a guest at the Baden-Württemberg state representation in Berlin and at the African Hub of the Berlinale on February 22, 2018.
Amani Papy is the founder of a film production, a film academy and a film festival. He shoots with and for international actors and directs. His impressive documentaries and films provide insights into everyday life in Burundi.
On February 22, 2018, Amani Papy showed several short films at the Baden-Württemberg state representation in Berlin. Philipp Keil, Managing Director of the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation, welcomed the guest from Burundi. After a short film about Burundian partnership coffee and fair trade, there was the opportunity to talk to the director in person. The Burundian ambassador Else Nizigama Ntamagiro was also a guest.
Amani Papy grew up in Burundi as the son of a photographer and studied IT and film in Nairobi. His goal is to get people excited about Burundi. At the Berlinale he motivated other filmmakers to do film projects in Burundi, inspired people and touched the audience. A film, says Amani Papy, offers great opportunities to change something.
