The AMAHORO! State partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi

Lived partnerships between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi

For more than 40 years, partnerships between people from Burundi and Baden-Württemberg have built a bridge across borders and distances. The relationship between the two regions cannot be reduced to a date or an event. It is characterized by political visits and return visits, by civil society cooperation and personal relationships. A parliamentary partnership developed in the 1980s. Today, numerous organizations from Baden-Württemberg and Burundian civil society, religious institutions, municipalities and ministries are shaping the AMAHORO! state partnership. Since its establishment, the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ) has coordinated the partnership work, promoted exchange and strengthened relationships through various meeting formats and networking.

The partnership aims to help build bridges between our cultures and societies in order to promote understanding, tolerance and mutual respect.

The partnership work of the SEZ

In 2009, a coordination office was set up in the SEZ to coordinate the partnership between the two regions. Since 2023, the work has been supported by the SEZ liaison office in Bujumbura.
The SEZ is a contact point for advice and networking between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi. We offer:

  • Space for encounters at events such as the BW-Burundi meeting, cabarets, traveling exhibition AMAHORO, and much more
  • Funding of projects in and to Burundi through the funding line works! Burundi
  • Impulses for power and discrimination-sensitive partnerships and public relations
