Lived partnerships between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi
For more than 40 years, partnerships between people from Burundi and Baden-Württemberg have built a bridge across borders and distances. The relationship between the two regions cannot be reduced to a date or an event. It is characterized by political visits and return visits, by civil society cooperation and personal relationships. A parliamentary partnership developed in the 1980s. Today, numerous organizations from Baden-Württemberg and Burundian civil society, religious institutions, municipalities and ministries are shaping the AMAHORO! state partnership. Since its establishment, the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ) has coordinated the partnership work, promoted exchange and strengthened relationships through various meeting formats and networking.
In 2009, a coordination office was set up in the SEZ to coordinate the partnership between the two regions. Since 2023, the work has been supported by the SEZ liaison office in Bujumbura.
