Three funding lines for partnership projects

With bwirkt! the SEZ supports development projects in Baden-Württemberg, abroad and in Baden-Württemberg's partner country Burundi.

The SEZ supports non-profit organizations with three funding lines, each with different objectives.

  • Bwirkt! Inland supports development policy education projects in Baden-Württemberg,
  • bwirkt! Abroad Partnership projects with countries Africa, Asia or Latin America listed on the DAC list 
  • Works! Burundi projects in Baden-Württemberg's partner country.

Through consulting and training for the applicant organizations, closer networking between the groups, and continuing education opportunities, the SEZ aims to improve and increase the effectiveness of its projects. With bwirkt!, the SEZ awards funding provided by the state of Baden-Württemberg following a resolution of the Baden-Württemberg State Parliament.

bwirkt! Ausland is the SEZ's funding opportunity for partnership projects in countries in Africa, Asia, or Latin America that are included in the DAC list, using funds from the state of Baden-Württemberg.

On the basis of and to promote the implementation of the objectives of the Development policy guidelines for Baden-Württemberg Baden-Württemberg organisations and their international partners are to be supported in their development policy project work.

The funding is intended to support Baden-Württemberg initiatives and institutions, as well as their international partners, in their development toward a sustainable partnership. This requires a genuine interest in the partnership and interculturally sensitive interaction. This is demonstrated not only by respectful interaction with one another, taking gender equality into account, but also by trust, openness, honesty, and transparency. Furthermore, the sustainable partnership should be lively, active, and stimulating, thus being open to new collaborators, new ideas, and new developments. Unlike a sponsorship, a partnership pursues a common goal: In partnership projects that follow the principle of "helping people help themselves," the focus is on mutual profit and benefit. 

The following will be supported:

partnership projects in the countries of Africa, Asia or Latin America that are included in the DAC list, priority, 

  • if they clearly serve to combat absolute poverty.
  • if they are clearly based on development approaches and initiatives of the partners*Interior from the south
  • if they are clearly based on a common interest of both parties in the partnership.
  • when it comes to innovative projects.

In principle not be funded:

  • Pure visit programs.
  • Projects that would correspond to institutional funding in terms of form and purpose.
  • Ongoing costs that necessarily arise even after the completion of a project (electricity, rent, permanently necessary salaries, e.g. for teachers). 
  • Travel and personnel costs of the applicant institution from Baden-Württemberg.

bwirkt! Burundi is the SEZ's funding opportunity for projects in Burundi using funds from the state of Baden-Württemberg. The bwirkt! Burundi funding program serves to strengthen and consolidate the AMAHORO! state partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi.

Burundi and Baden-Württemberg have had civil society partnerships that work with the funding line for more than 40 years! Burundi can be designed. The focus of project funding is on the project partnership and the sustainability of the project. The aim is to strengthen the commitment, partnership and networking of actors in and between Burundian and Baden-Württemberg civil society.

The funding is intended to strengthen a sustainable partnership between Baden-Württemberg initiatives and their partners in Burundi. The basis for this is a genuine interest in the partner and an interculturally sensitive relationship. This is shown not only by respectful interaction with one another, taking gender equality into account, but also by trust, openness, honesty and transparency. Furthermore, the sustainable partnership should be lively, active and stimulating in order to be open to new partners, new impulses and developments. In contrast to a sponsorship, the partnership pursues a common goal: in partnership projects that follow this principle, the focus is on mutual profit and benefit. There are three funding priorities of the funding line beffekt! Burundi:

  • Food security
  • Income generating measures
  • Promoting peace

In principle, the following cannot be funded:

  • Pure visit programs.
  • Projects that would correspond to institutional funding in terms of form and purpose.

In this sense, nationwide initiatives are called upon to apply for state funding for broad-based activities and measures in the following fields:

  • Information and educational work to raise awareness of development policy in Baden-Württemberg.
  • Networking of development policy actors,
  • in particular to incorporate the commitment and expertise of (post-)migrant organizations and diaspora communities.
  • Global learning and studying: in particular the social anchoring of education for sustainable development through project work within this framework or within the framework of intercultural dialogue or cultural exchange.
  • Sustainable consumption, responsible procurement, fair trade and the development responsibility of companies.
  • Partnerships with people in the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America: in particular by conveying an image that is not influenced by stereotypes.

We would also like to encourage you to broaden the scope of development cooperation. In addition to the aforementioned focal points, we see projects on decolonization, anti-racism, climate justice, as well as art and cultural projects with an international approach as effective methods for providing educational work on global justice and its interrelationships.

In principle not be funded can domestic projects with the following content:

  • Measures that do not take place in Baden-Württemberg and organizations that are not based in Baden-Württemberg.
  • Capital goods (purchases or equipment) can only be funded if sustainable use is ensured. The investments must clearly be part of longer-term project support (program character).
  • Self-promotion and fundraising.
  • Profit-oriented purposes.
  • Projects that have already started.
  • Projects that correspond to institutional funding in terms of form and purpose.
