For more than 40 years, partnerships have connected people from Baden-Württemberg and Burundi. Their basis is the politically, socially and socially committed people who work every day towards a common future. In this context and in practical work at schools, various concepts and offers have been developed as to how schools can experience the AMAHORO! state partnership.
The Coordination office for the partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi at the SEZ supports the networking between both regions. Over the years, the SEZ has built up a broad network of non-profit organizations, associations, religious institutions, startups, municipalities and ministries. Please contact us for further information if you are interested in a Partner school search or Speakers from Burundi to your school.
The EPIZ (Developmental Education Information Center) has been doing this since 2023
in the Working Group Eine Welt Reutlingen eV) with the School initiative AMAHORO! Burundi The state partnership for schools is tangible! Stimulating materials for educational work, creative projects, training courses, meetings and school partnerships bring shared learning spaces to life.
A school partnership is a long-term agreement between two schools with the aim of mutual exchange to learn from each otherSchool partnerships offer the opportunity to learn first-hand how other young people live, what they think and what problems they face in their everyday lives. This is how we talk WITH rather than ABOUT other young people and similarities and differences become tangible.
There are different types of cooperation between schools. It is important to distinguish between PATENSHIPS and PARTNERSHIPSWhile a sponsorship focuses more one-sidedly on material help and finances, for example, equipment, building extensions or school fees for a school in the so-called global south, a partnership is about exchange. Intercultural communication and mutual learning from one another take center stage; financial support is just one of many aspects.
A great way to get to know the partnership is to visit the free exhibition "AMAHORO Burundi - a multifaceted partner country". It provides a wide range of insights into the life, society and (colonial) history of the partner country. It also tells of the long-standing AMAHORO! state partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi.
In just 23 gripping minutes, the documentary film "Facing new realities - How climate change is affecting the heart of Africa" impressively reveals the consequences of climate change in Burundi. It encourages sustainable reflection on climate justice and shows what those affected are already doing. After all, Burundi itself does not contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, but is nevertheless severely affected.
It is available in English and French with German, French and English subtitles.
A map story tells stories using a digital world map. This map story from the school initiative AMAHORO! Burundi addresses German colonial history using Burundi and other African countries. It not only sheds light on the colonial past, but also its effects on the present.
