mindchangers: Spot on Young Power

TO THE FINAL MINDCHANGERS SUMMIT

Thursday, October 10, 2024, 13:00 p.m. - 21:00 p.m. in the New Palace in Stuttgart

After four years, the EU project Mindchangers – Regions and Youth for Planet and People is now coming to an end. Against this background, the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg and the Baden-Württemberg Development Cooperation Foundation (SEZ) cordially invite you to celebrate the young people's commitment in the state and to think about the future together.

“Spot on Young Power – the final Mindchangers Summit” is set up as a networking event where young people and representatives from politics, administration and civil society from all over Baden-Württemberg come together.

With the last Mindchangers event, we want to once again open up the greenfield of various ideas and visions for strengthening global justice, especially in the areas of climate justice, climate change and migration. We bring the many different perspectives and existing projects around these topics together at one table using a variety of methods. In this way, new project ideas and collaborations can emerge and be carried forward.

In addition to an exciting Political Showcase are the innovative ones Work Sessions an essential part of the “Mindchangers Spot on Young Power”. We ask all participants to register for a work session when registering. An overview of all sessions can be found here:

THE WORK SESSIONS

MINI SOCIAL HACKATHON “HOW TO MAKE SUSTAINABILITY SEXY (AGAIN)” with GlobeUp

🚀 Ready to rethink the future? Join our social mini-hackathon to make sustainability sexy (again)! 🌍💥 We're breaking out of the green bubble to develop fresh, bold ideas that will inspire the world and bring measures to the table that will make sustainability the most attractive topic of all. Forget boring eco-talks - this is where innovation meets imagination. Whether you're a creator, a committed person, a maker or a visionary - let's develop approaches and concept ideas together that can become real game changers. 💡🔥

Living Library: Youth meets politics
In our interactive workshop format "Living Library: Youth meets Politics", young people have the opportunity to exchange ideas directly with representatives from politics and administration. In small discussion groups, they can bring in their questions and perspectives on the challenges of the climate crisis and learn more about the concrete work of politics and administration on these issues. Together, we also explore sustainable solutions for a fairer future.
Sarah Hagmann MdL, Green Party in the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg, and Jan Kohlmeyer, Head of the Climate Protection Department of the City of Stuttgart, are available to us as “living books” for discussion.

In the “poetic resilience” workshop, participants discover the power of poetry to strengthen personal resilience. By writing and performing poetry slam texts together, they are given tools to reflect on and express their own experiences in difficult times. The workshop offers an inspiring mix of theoretical input, creative exchange and practical exercises that encourage writing and performance in a playful way.

Speaker: Moiz Haroon Masood

“If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”

This quote from Lilla Watson reflects the essence of our workshop: the transition from one-sided “aid” to a real partnership. Even though the colonial era is long gone, its legacy still influences development cooperation today.

In this interactive workshop we offer an introduction to this topic and take a critical look at current development cooperation. We ask questions such as:

  • Who develops whom and which historical and cultural influences shape our actions?
  • What do we understand by colonial continuities and how do they manifest themselves in development cooperation, especially with regard to Africa?
  • What does this have to do with me personally?
  • How can we recognize and overcome these patterns in our own thinking and actions?

This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to look beyond the surface and critically examine the fundamentals of development cooperation.

Speakers:

Nadine Elghonimy and Anna Leicht, coordination office of the AMAHORO! State partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Burundi at the Foundation for Development Cooperation Baden-Württemberg (SEZ)

Ready to make the real impact you desire? Join us for “Ubuntu for Change,” a co-empowering workshop that blends the transformative African philosophy of Ubuntu with practical, real-world applications. Designed for both individuals and communities, this workshop will show you how to harness collective action to drive mindful social change.

Discover how Ubuntu—meaning “I am because we are”—can be a powerful tool for addressing today's pressing issues. We'll explore real-life examples and decolonial perspectives, highlighting how Ubuntu has successfully tackled inequality, climate change, and social justice challenges. These case studies will provide insights into how Ubuntu can be applied to create inclusive and resilient communities.

By the end of this workshop, you'll be equipped with new tools, fresh ideas, and a clear path to integrating Ubuntu into your leadership and initiatives. Whether you're a young activist, an established leader, or someone eager to make a difference, this workshop will inspire and co-empower you to drive transformative change for a more equitable future.

We use pictures to tell stories – from real life. They give us impressions of other countries, cultures and religions. They report on political events, small and large adventures or simply on everyday life right on our doorstep. We learn about the world through photos and can share what moves us with others.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of photography and develop creative approaches to capture your experiences and concerns in expressive images. Whether with a camera or smartphone: together we will work out the techniques to create images and visual stories that stand out and arouse curiosity. Discover how you can effectively convey your message by creating image series and creative storytelling.

In this social hackathon, we ask ourselves: What methods can we use to counter fake news on climate and sustainability issues? What approaches are there for people who are "skeptical" of science or who refuse to accept it? We also look behind the facade: Who visites spread why Fake news? If this exchange has already given you project ideas – no problem! Because at the end we will present our NOPLANETB-funding that financially supports and accompanies science-based projects on global sustainability.

Can we change the world if we are out of balance with ourselves?

In an increasingly interconnected world, global events seem to have an immediate impact on our personal lives. But change begins with us, right on our own doorstep. Only when we understand ourselves better and are aware of our inner processes can we also have a positive influence on our environment and ultimately on the global community.

We cordially invite you to discover new ways of self-reflection and personal transformation through an artistic-therapeutic approach in our workshop “Through art to inner balance”. Use creative methods to make unconscious processes visible, transform them and develop innovative solutions.

Let us take the first step together towards a more conscious and balanced self. We look forward to your participation!
